Kaizer Chiefs’ pre-season preparations in Spain, led by coach Fernando Da Cruz, are progressing well as the team gears up for the new campaign. However, defender Paseka Mako has suffered a setback after fracturing his forearm during Tuesday’s friendly match against Al-Kholood.
Mako has returned to South Africa for medical care and will consult a specialist orthopaedic surgeon for further assessment. He is expected to rejoin his teammates in the coming weeks once his recovery is underway.
On a brighter note, several players who ended last season on the injury list have resumed training and are eager to fight for selection under Da Cruz. The team will looking to end their tour of Spain on a high against La Liga side El Eche on Saturday before heading back home where the coach’s first test on home soil will come in the Toyota Cup against Scottland FC of Zimbabwe in Rustenburg on 26 July.
