Bloemfontein, 28 August 2024 - Kaizer Chiefs will be in action this afternoon when they take on Young Africans of Tanzania in a highly anticipated pre-season friendly match at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein. This encounter marks the inaugural Toyota Cup, as well as coach Nasereddine Nabi's first match in front of a crowd since taking the helm at Amakhosi.
Fresh from a successful three-week training tour in Turkiye, where the team remained unbeaten in several friendly matches, Chiefs are ready to put their skills to the test against familiar opponents. The two teams previously met in a pre-season friendly last year in Dar es Salaam, setting the stage for an exciting rematch.
Fans will be excited to see defender, Nkosana Mbuthu, son of former Chiefs player Patrick 'Ace' Mbuthu, take to the field, while new signings, goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari and defender Rushwin Dortley, will start from the bench.
Coach Nabi has opted for a solid defensive lineup, featuring Reeve Frosler, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Given Msimango, and Mbuthu. The midfield will be manned by youngsters Samkelo Zwane, Mduduzi Shabalala, and Mfundo Vilakazi, alongside Yusuf Maart. Upfront, Ashley Du Preez and Ranga Chivaviro will form a formidable striking partnership.
The sold-out crowd at the Toyota Stadium is in for a treat, as the match promises to be an electrifying display of football. The excitement began with a curtain raiser between Kaizer Chiefs and BC Legends, which saw the Soweto giants emerge victorious with a 2-1 win.
Fans who can't attend the stadium can catch the action live on SuperSport DStv Channel 202 and SABC 1. Kick-off is 15h00.
