"First and foremost, congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns," said assistant coach Patrick Mabedi. "Sundowns were the better team on the day. I'm glad they gave us a good game."

Mabedi was speaking at the post match press conference of the inaugural Shell Helix Ultra Cup where Mamelodi Sundowns overcame Kaizer Chiefs to win 2-1.

"We will take some points from the match to go forward with our preseason preparations," said Mabedi. "Maybe it is a blessing in disguise to lose during preparation phase. This will allow us a chance to see where we are with our preparations."

Jeremy Brockie and Themba Zwane scored for Sundowns while Bernard Parker pulled one back for Chiefs.

Mabedi shared some thoughts about the playing personnel, "I think, for now, we have one position that we are looking at," analysed Mabedi. "The left-back [position] needs some attention. But we want to give credit to our players – they really played well bar the two mistakes that led to conceding the two goals. I'm happy, otherwise, with the overall picture and the outlook going forward."

"Coach Giovanni Solinas has arrived and is currently observing and getting used to the setup," concluded Mabedi. "We will go back to the training grounds to continue with the preparations."
