“The spirit in the camp is great,” says coach Giovanni Solinas. “We must never forget that Kaizer Chiefs is a big club. We must always remember to respect the badge and the supporters.”

Kaizer Chiefs will open their account of the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season with a visit to an already sold out Loftus Versfeld Stadium. The hosts are reigning league champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

“We must play with a degree of personality,” continues the Amakhosi coach, “because you need a big heart to be able to play for Chiefs.

“It will be tough because Sundowns have a quality team. However, we are brave and we are going to play our football with a strong believe in what we plan to do.”

Kick-off is at 15:00.

“Sundowns like to play positive football,” assesses Solinas, who will be making his debut in charge of the Glamour Boys after having received his work permit earlier this week. “But their attacking phase is better than their defensive phase.

“They play fast and prefer to move the ball around quickly. I like to play against such a team, because we also want to play positively. We will try to exploit their weaknesses.”

“George Maluleka has an ankle injury and will need a few weeks to fully recover,” concludes the Kaizer Chiefs coach, “while Dumisani Zuma and Kgotso Malope are back in training, but they are not as yet ready to play.”

Let the games begin Amakhosi.
