Páez available for selection - Komphela

“Gustavo is available for selection,” Steve Komphela says about the newly signed Venezuelan striker Gustavo Páez. “He has earned himself a place in the squad by good performances at the training ground. We have done all what we needed to do during the break to get the team ready.”

Amakhosi will resume their Absa Premiership schedule with a game against Free State Stars at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday night (kick-off is at 19:30).

“We went to the break with a draw and two wins in a row,” Komphela reflects. “We have been working hard during the January break. I think we are ready to win matches, starting tonight.”

Both Chiefs and Stars go into this fixture at the back of wins in their last matches, which will make this a highly interesting fixture.

“We are aware of the changes in their set-up which makes them a bit of a closed book,” Komphela comments about Stars. “They have signed new players and brought in a new coach in Serame Letsoaka. We will rely on our strengths and observe their plan as the game progresses. However, the intelligence that we have on them should be enough to win the match.”

The two sides occupy opposite sides of the log. The Amakhosi are placed fourth on the Absa Premiership log with 24 points from 15 matches, while Ea Lla Koto are in 14th spot with 14 points from 15 games.

“The break gave players like George Lebese and William Twala a chance to recover from an assortment of injuries they suffered before the break,” says Komphela. “We are still waiting though for Camaldine Abraw to get his match fitness after a long lay-off.”

“We want to maintain our dominance over Stars,” adds Komphela, while referring to the head-to-head stats. Chiefs and Stars have met in 34 league matches since 1996. Amakhosi have 22 wins compared to three for Ea Lla Koto, while nine matches have been drawn.

“We beat them in the first round and they surprised us in the Telkom Knockout, which makes this an interesting encounter for the supporters.”

When the teams met earlier this season, the Glamour Boys claimed a 2-0 away win thanks to goals from Michelle Katsvairo and Willard Katsande.

Tickets for the match are on sale at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide. Tickets cost R40.
