“Our journey never ends, we are always with you.”

As football followers will know all too well, the only constant is change. Players come and players go for various reasons, but the indelible mark that Kaizer Chiefs leaves on these players always remains in their hearts.

This was apparent when a group of gleeful former players and legends descended upon FNB Stadium for the 166th Soweto Derby. Hosted by Kaizer Motaung Jr and Cyril Nzama, a few of these individuals graced periods such as the Operation Vat Alles era. Other legends present were part of the side that dominated the late 80s and went on to win a historic double in 1992.

Two years on from that success, South Africa achieved democracy and essentially changed the course of the journey of a country and its citizens. Olwethu Nkohla, who was the most recent recipient of Player @ Your Doorstep, decided to celebrate that by printing the number ‘94’ on his 2018/19 home jersey.

His journey with the club began with his father’s love for Kaizer Chiefs — a familiar manner in which supporters adopt the club as their own. Having lost his father earlier this year, Nkohla carries the journey forward with that symbolic purchase.

The current crop of players who now wear that jersey will be looking to add to the storied Kaizer Chiefs journey and their own, especially in an era where players are increasingly under the microscope due to the technology age and social media.

Tonight’s KCTV episode takes us through journeys in which Kaizer Chiefs has been the common denominator. Some segments will invoke feelings of euphoria while other segments will be more sombre as a particular journey takes an anticlimactic turn.

Tune in to SuperSport 4, DStv channel 204 on Thursday, 28 February at 19:30 for yet another dose of KCTV.
