On what’s needed after coming off a big win in the Soweto Derby:

It’s a matter of consistency and making sure you put players in the right frame of mind all the time and avoiding choosing the games you peak for. You know coming from a Derby, whether you come from a loss or a win, it takes a lot out of the players. We just hope we have fully recovered for this next assignment, because it’s equally important for us to grind out a result so we maintain our momentum.

On keeping the players level-headed after taking the spoils against Orlando Pirates:

We try to keep everyone on the same level of thinking in terms of being humble, keeping our feet on the ground and always remembering that there is a lot at stake and a lot to play for. This one is done and dusted, it’s in the history books of the club. But what is key for you after playing such a big game, is how you show your quality as a Club.

On facing the next game after a Derby:

If you can win that game, you can’t say you will easily win the next game, because every team that plays against Kaizer Chiefs raises their bar. It gave us a big boost in making sure we should believe in ourselves even more. We just want to keep it going the way it is, lift the spirits of the guys keep pushing and create our own luck. From nowhere, you get a goal even when the chips are down, but you rise to the occasion. And we need to keep that momentum going. We need to keep the very same mindset at the highest level and make sure everyone is in the same boat. We must make sure how important it is to have the same spirit and attitude towards every game we play.

On Richards Bay:

When you watch them from the beginning of the season they use a lot of energy. They have very good, high quality players in the middle of the pitch and their technical staff is equally good. They’ve been together for some time and have had new additions to boost the technical team. They’ve got a good team of youngsters, with a great balance of bringing in the experience of players who have played at the highest level for quite some time, like Ntsikelelo Nyauza, to guide the young ones. When you look at where they are on the log and how they’ve been doing, they’ve done great, they’ve done well so far. That alone tells you that you are playing against a team that can compete and which has very good players.

On guarding against complacency:

We won’t take them for granted; they’re no pushovers and are a difficult team to play against. We obviously have to do our preparations and homework and make sure we nullify their strengths and use our strengths to give us the maximum points.

On injury worries in the Chiefs camp:

It’s unfortunate that week in and week out we lose key players. From last week’s starting XI we will be without Ash (du Preez), who landed awkwardly against Pirates and has not fully recovered.
