“We welcome the coach back into the Amakhosi Family,” comments Itumeleng Khune on the return of Ernst Middendorp as Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach. Amakhosi will host SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership encounter at Nelspruit’s Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday, 12 December.

Khune was still a youngster when the German coached Chiefs during his previous stint, which was from 2005 until 2007.

“All players are happy and excited to work with him,” continues the goalkeeper, “he has brought with him a lot of positive energy.

“Middendorp is a great coach and a great personality, who wants the players to work hard at training.”

It will already be the fourth time that Amakhosi and Matsantsantsa will meet this season.

The two sides played to a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final, with SuperSport having the edge in the second round, winning 1-0.

Chiefs did beat the Pretoria-side 1-0 in the quarterfinal of the Telkom Knockout, with Ramahlwe Mphahlele netting the winner.

The Glamour Boys are presently in seventh position on the league table, having 18 points from 14 games, while Wednesday’s opponents are in sixth position with 19 points from 12 matches.

“SuperSport have a very good side with a lot of internationals,” says Khune. “We expect a tough match. We will start with a clean slate after the arrival of Middendorp and we therefore want to start well. It won’t be easy, but we are confident to get the result we are looking for.”

The match between Chiefs and SuperSport will kick-off at 19:30.

Tickets are sold at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers at R50.
