Kaizer Chiefs’ Under-19s side will play Sabelo Stars at Soweto’s Bram Fischer Ground on Sunday, 10 December (kick-off is at 09:00).
The development side has been doing well in the SAB League, Johannesburg Region.
Last week, they beat Randburg FC 5-0. The Under-19s are presently in second position on the log standings, having collected 32 points from 14 matches. Orlando Pirates are the log leaders. They are on 35 points, although they have played one game more (15 matches).
“Pirates play mostly with their reserve team, the same side as they use for the MultiChoice Diski League,” Amakhosi’s Under-19s coach Sundra Govinder points out, “while we play with young guys. We also often change the team to give other youngsters a chance, as it is important to look at the full squad.”
Still, the youthful Glamour Boys have shown that winning and developing players can go hand-in-hand.
One of the stars in the side is the attacker Waylan Rooi, who has scored eight goals in 12 games. The attacking midfielder Tshepo Mohlala and the right-winger Kamohelo Hoala, both 16-years-old, are also showing great form.
“It promises to be a tough game against Sabelo Stars,” coach Govinder concludes, “however, we are more than ready.”
