It was not a bad day in the office for Kaizer Chiefs’ Youth Development teams on Saturday in the Gauteng Development League as they came back with a 75% success rate when compared to Mamelodi Sundowns’ 25% in this year’s semi-finals of the competition.

Chiefs and Sundowns’ under-13, under-15, under-17 and under-19 teams met in the semi-finals of this year’s GDL competition staged at the Kaizer Chiefs Village. The teams were vying for a spot in the finals of the competition, with the view of being crowned the champions.

Amakhosi’s U-17s drew first blood when they beat Sundowns 1-0 in the first game of the day. It was followed by the U-13s battle which was won on penalties by Chiefs after the game ended 1-1 . The under U-15s also drew 1-1 in regulation time, but Amakhosi lost the game on penalties by 6-7. The U-19 were merciless and showed class when they thumped Sundowns 5-1 to reach the finals.

This means Amakhosi’s U-13, U-17 and U-19 team will play in the finals of the Gauteng Development League this year and will be crown champions when they win their matches.

SAFA will announce details around the finals in due course.
