It was sweet revenge for the Legends who were recently hammered 5-0 by the Pirates Masters in another friendly encounter in Maseru.
The curtain-raiser was part of the entertainment line-up organised to encourage supporters to report early at the stadium. The majority of the stadium responded positively and by 15:00 - an hour before kick-off - the stadium was virtually packed.
Those who arrived early were never disappointed as the Legends brought back memories of yesteryear with their silky touches and ran out 2-1 victors against their Pirates counterparts.
Doctor Khumalo seemed to enjoy himself as he pulled the strings from the middle of the park. Some observers even suggested that he could still play a role as a player in the current Chiefs squad.
Tebogo Moloi put the Masters in the lead with a classy goal from outside the box that gave Legends keeper Banks Sethlodi little chance. But the Amakhosi Legends were soon back on level terms after Shane McGregor was brought down in the box and the referee did not think twice as he awarded Amakhosi a penalty. Shakes Kungoane, probably the slowest player on the pitch, made no mistake from the spot kick.
Defender Mark Tovey had to be stretched off in injured and in his place came Teenage Dladla with the famous jersey No 11.
Several changes from both sides injected a new lease of life with Donald “Ace” Khuse coming on for McGregor on the Amakhosi side while Aubrey “Sense” Lekoane came on for Black Sunday on the Pirates side.
Khuse displayed great mobility and it was his pinpoint free-kick that found the head of Wellington Manyathi and the Wits assistant coach made no mistake to put Amakhosi in the lead.
